PS I love you Film Review

P.S. I Love You

The film is based on the book by Cecelia Ahern. The film P.S I love you deals with finding life and love again after the death of a loved one. This film stars Hilary Swank, who is most famously known for her role in the film Million Dollar Baby and Boys don’t Cry.

In this film, Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler are a happily married couple. Hilary plays the role of Holly Kennedy and Gerry Butler plays the role of Gerry Kennedy! When Gerry dies prematurely of a brain tumor, Holly has to learn to cope without him. She has the help of her mother-in-law Patricia (Kathy Bates) and her friends Denise (Lisa Kudrow of Friends the TV series), Sharon (Gina Gershon) and John (James Marsters of Buffy the Vampire, Angel the series and Torchwood).

What makes this story different, is that Gerry had the romantic foresight to plan ahead for Holly. On Holly’s birthday she receives a video he had made explaining that he has written notes to help her through this very tough year without him. He has set her tasks ranging from letting rip at a karaoke bar to a pre-paid trip to Ireland. Each letter is signed off with the line P.S. I love you hence the title.

She meets two possible suitors on her adventure, Daniel (Harry Connick jr.), a local bar tender and William (Jeffery Dean Morgan), an Irish pub singer who also happens to be Gerry’s childhood friend. This leaves Holly with the emotional dilemma of choosing between her memories of Gerry or a life of new memories with another man.

The film does lose it’s way a little in the middle with some unnecessary scenes like the fishing in Ireland, but it does pick up thanks to the performances of the leading actors. Overall, PS I Love you is a good film. It is both a romantic chic-flick with depth. This movie will give you the perfect excuse to invite your girlfriends around for a girly night in. Equally this will appeal to men who are looking a romantic night in with your partner.

Lastly, we recommend the P.S I Love You Book if you have not read it yet. The book transports your imagination into the another realm, personalising your experience of the story.
